How to Work with a
Forensic Document Examiner
The following situations are examples of how I can help
you with a document in question:
- Has your signature
been reproduced on an item you did not purchase?
- How can I prove
this is not my signature on this dealership’s contract?
- Did my father sign
this Power of Attorney document?
- How can I prove
this is not my signature on this check stub?
- Have these two documents
been typed on the same typewriter?
- How can I prove
the employee in question forged his signature on
this invoice?
- Is this the date
the document in question was produced or not?
- Did the nurse, doctor,
or another medical personnel change this document?
- Has the signature
on this document been cut and pasted on another
document?
- Did the same person
who signed this document sign the other document?
What is Forensic Document Examining?
Simply put, a forensic document examiner examines questioned
documents to determine their authenticity and/or to
prove who wrote the document. The forensic document
examiner can be called to present expert testimony in
court to demonstrate the reason for his / her professional
opinion.
What is a Questioned Document?
A question document is generally defined as anything
that has marks, signs, or symbols which have a questioned
meaning or suggest a message to someone.
COLLECTING SUSPECTED DOCUMENTS
- Collect the original
document in question.
- Make 2-3 copies
of the document in question.
- Place the original
document in question in a protective sleeve.
- Do not highlight,
mark or change anything on the document in question.
- Contact a qualified
document examiner.
Handwriting Reveals?
Handwriting is simply known as brain writing. No matter
what part of your body you choose to write with, your
personality will be revealed. Handwriting reveals emotions,
abilities, and the physical well-being of an individual.
Handwriting is composed of many different components:
pressure, slant, size, strokes, and loops. All of this
is connected to form words and sentences.
Handwriting cannot reveal age, gender or race of the
writer. Handwriting analysis is scientific and should
not be confused with astrology or tarot. Just like no
two people have the same fingerprint, no two people
write the same. A trained expert forensic document examiner
can find the differences in the handwriting in questioned
and render a professional opinion as to its authenticity.
